No "y" in absinth

There's no "y" in absinth, but there is in Cynthia. I thought for sure absinth would have a y in it. It's Cynthia for whom I made the card pictured above, and it's Cynthia who's been drinking absinth in San Francisco. And I heard from David that he's been drinking Manhattans in Birmingham. I haven't checked with Gina, but I'm sure she's drinking beer in Atlanta. Me? I'm drinking orange-mango-peach juice. Where are you and what are you drinking?

I like stripes

I've been forced to admit that my favorite gloves have outlived their everyday usefulness. There are holes in the fingers and much of the fleece has worn away. So, I have moved onto a new purple pair. If I could have just found the same ones, that's what I would have done.

Around here, you need something like $300,000 to buy a small condo with a toilet that doesn't fully flush and the closets don't even have the depth of a hanger. On the other hand, just about any night of the week you can walk into the Lizard Lounge, pay $5.00, and hear music that'll knock your socks off and tear your heart out. For instance, the ear-defying Duke Levine: http://www.myspace.com/dukelevine So, really, everything balances out in the end.

Dreaming

Some people don't remember their dreams. I almost always do. I still remember a particularly vivid and powerful dream I had when I was in the first grade! Usually my dreams are stressful in some way - things are never going right and I feel anxious or confused. Last night I even dreamt about meeting Madonna. Her arms were flabbier than I would have thought - nothing like in the pictures you see. I had no idea I even thought about Madonna's arms, but there she was, squishy upper arms and all doing a dance number in a pink outfit with a black top hat. This dream was not stressful, but I was confused. I mean, how did this happen that I was standing 10 feet from Madonna while she did high kicks?

When I dream I am drawing or painting it makes me happy. It makes me feel my creative energy is so mobilized that it shows up in my dream so that I can carefully carry it over from one day to the next.

What did you dream about last night?

Pignuts

Who knew there was such a thing as a "pignut"? I sure didn't. At least, not until I found one on the ground sitting right next to a helpful plaque that explained all about the Pignut Hickory tree and the nut that fell from it. The nut really does have a little snout. Thank you to the person who thought to label the trees. Your efforts are not in vain!

Underfoot and overhead

Today I'll dip into my recent archive for an image. This picture records what I saw on one walk from Roslindale Square to my house. What did you find today?

Beginnings

Let's begin, shall we?
